RIYADH — More than half of Saudi citizens have experienced fraud, according to a field survey.

Consumers International conducted the survey in 2025, and the survey was jointly funded by the King Khalid Foundation, the Saleh Kamel Humanitarian Foundation, and the Abdulkadir Al-Muhaidib Social Foundation.

It was revealed in the survey that 43 percent of Saudis who had fallen victim to fraud, were able to recover their money, reflecting the effectiveness of grievance channels and the high standards of financial consumer protection.

The findings also showed a striking pattern, with 16 percent of Saudis reporting that they had experienced financial fraud — the unauthorized withdrawal or spending of funds — by family members or trusted individuals.

The survey further revealed that 75 percent of respondents identified fraud as one of the biggest risks facing consumers, while 70 percent considered data misuse to be one of the most widespread challenges.

Meanwhile, 57 percent said they do not trust financing tools because they do not understand the fees and benefits associated with such services, while 90 percent believe that consumers lack the tools to file complaints or recover their money.
