The Health Services of the Ministry of Defense have successfully conducted the first remote robotic surgery between two of its healthcare facilities in Riyadh and Dhahran, with technical support from stc group as the digital enabler. This milestone reflects the transformative role of digital technologies in advancing the healthcare system in the Saudi Arabia.
The operation marked a significant milestone in leveraging advanced digital infrastructure and a high-reliability communications technology to enable remote specialist surgeries, allowing patients to benefit from advanced medical expertise regardless of geography. It also demonstrated the highest levels of integration between medical teams and specialized technical teams in networks and digital infrastructure, ensuring the procedure was executed with efficiency, precision, and reliability.
The success of this operation confirms the significant potential unlocked by bringing together the medical expertise of the Ministry of Defense Health Services and stc group’s advanced digital infrastructure, expanding access to specialist surgical services across Saudi Arabia’s regions and supporting the country’s targets for healthcare sector development.
stc group designed and operated the integrated digital communications system that enabled the success of the operation, providing a secure, high-reliability communications network that connected the operating rooms in both healthcare facilities, and ensured the integration of technical systems. This enabled the seamless transfer of data, medical imaging, and real-time control of robotic surgery systems with high efficiency and precision.
The digital infrastructure provided by stc group and the Ministry of Defense Health Services enabled the remote surgical procedure to be performed in accordance with the highest standards of safety and reliability, expanding opportunities for delivering specialist healthcare across Saudi Arabia.
This achievement is an extension of Saudi Arabia’s journey in empowering the healthcare sector to deliver comprehensive and accessible healthcare to all members of society, contributing to an enhanced quality of life, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
