MUSCAT — Five Indian nationals were rescued after a Kuwait-flagged tanker was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, Indian authorities said Saturday.
The Indian Embassy in Oman said it coordinated the rescue of the five Indians aboard the MT Kazimah III after the vessel was “struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz.”
“All 5 Indian nationals have been shifted ashore safely,” the embassy said on X, thanking Omani authorities for their support and assistance.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs also confirmed the rescue.
“We remain committed to the safety, security and welfare of our seafarers abroad,” ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said.
Regional tensions have remained high since the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israeli targets and US military facilities across the region.
The conflict has also severely disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy supplies.
Iran has linked the full reopening of the strait to several conditions, including an end to hostilities, sanctions relief, the release of frozen assets and the implementation of commitments by Washington.
