RIYADH — Riyadh Metro, overseen by the Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), has been named among the world’s top four transport projects at the Smart City Expo World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, Spain. The recognition came amid global competition involving 533 entries from 68 countries, marking a new international achievement that reflects Riyadh’s leadership in developing modern and sustainable mobility systems.

The ranking recognizes the project’s scale and advanced technology as one of the world’s largest and most modern public transport projects. Riyadh Metro is a key pillar of a sustainable, environmentally friendly urban transport system that contributes to reducing carbon emissions, improving traffic flow and mobility, and accommodating Riyadh’s population growth and rapid urban expansion.

During its participation, the commission is showcasing the use of data and modern technologies in city planning and management through the Riyadh Data Hub, digital twin applications, and artificial intelligence. It is also highlighting Riyadh’s experience in developing its public transport system
and managing traffic, the Green Riyadh program’s efforts, and the capital’s major development projects.

The congress is one of the leading international gatherings focused on urban development and envisioning the future of cities. This year’s edition is held under the theme “Urban Solutions, Real Impact,” bringing together more than 600 international speakers to discuss the latest solutions and experiences in digital transformation, mobility, energy, environment, housing, and infrastructure. It also aims to strengthen cooperation to build more efficient and sustainable cities.
