ADEN — Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Al-Alimi announced Monday the resumption of the country’s oil exports, ending a suspension that has been in place since 2022 amid the conflict with the Houthi militia.
In a televised address, Al-Alimi said the government had begun implementing measures to resume oil exports “by all available means” starting Monday.
He said the revenues would be directed toward supporting the state budget, paying public sector salaries, improving essential services, and strengthening economic stability to ensure Yemen’s natural wealth benefits all citizens.
Al-Alimi also called on Yemenis to unite behind the state and support the armed forces and security agencies in efforts to restore state institutions and end the Houthi coup.
He said the government had consistently pursued peace and sought to ease the suffering of Yemenis, but accused the Houthi militia of escalating the conflict, rejecting humanitarian initiatives, and exploiting the humanitarian crisis to advance its own agenda.
Al-Alimi added that Yemen’s prolonged crisis was a direct consequence of the Houthi takeover, accusing the group of serving the interests of the Iranian regime and dragging the country into regional conflicts.
He renewed his appeal to residents in areas under Houthi control to rally behind the state, saying they remain the only path toward security, stability, and a better future for all Yemenis.
