GENEVA — The United Nations Human Rights Council has adopted by consensus a Saudi-led resolution aimed at advancing women’s participation in cybersecurity, reinforcing the objectives of the global “Empowering Women in Cybersecurity” initiative launched by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

The resolution, introduced by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva, was adopted during the council’s 62nd session.

The resolution seeks to translate the initiative’s vision into practical international action by promoting women’s participation in the cybersecurity sector, developing their skills, supporting career advancement, and helping address the global shortage of cybersecurity talent and expertise to strengthen cyber resilience worldwide.

Saudi Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila said the initiative reflects the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation, technical assistance and capacity building to empower women in cybersecurity while respecting countries’ national priorities.

He said the resolution embodies at the UN level the vision of the Crown Prince’s initiative by increasing women’s participation in cybersecurity, expanding female talent in the sector and supporting women’s advancement into senior leadership positions.

The Saudi-led resolution, which received broad international backing, underscores the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting global efforts to empower women in cybersecurity through its leadership and initiatives in the field.

The International Cybersecurity Forum Foundation oversees the implementation of the two global initiatives launched by the Crown Prince: Empowering Women in Cybersecurity and Protecting Children in Cyberspace. The foundation works in cooperation with international partners, including specialized agencies of the United Nations.
