BANGKOK — Flooding has affected more than 1.17 million households and 3.2 million people across Thailand, as Bangkok and dozens of provinces continue to grapple with rising waters following heavy rainfall.

Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Director-General Nirat Pongsitthaworn said Sunday that heavy to very heavy rain across large parts of the country, combined with runoff from northern provinces flowing into the Central Plains, had inundated extensive areas, according to the Bangkok Post.

Flooding continued across 27 provinces, affecting 154 districts, 1,209 tambons and 8,790 villages, as well as the capital Bangkok.

More than 3.2 million people have been affected nationwide.

The latest figures, however, showed a decline from Friday, when flooding was reported across 31 provinces and Bangkok and affected more than 1.24 million households.
