RIYADH — Saudi Arabia will host the third International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO 2026) in Jeddah, with the participation of 19 countries represented by approximately 120 students and scientific specialists.
The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), and the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE).
With King Abdulaziz University hosting the event from August 2 to 9, 2026, the opening ceremony will be held on Monday, August 3, under the patronage of Prince Saud bin Mishal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region.
The International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO), approved by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2024, serves as a global scientific platform for students to exchange expertise in nuclear science and its peaceful applications.
It also promotes the safe and peaceful use of nuclear technologies, encourages young people to specialize in the field, and inspires them to develop innovative solutions that expand the peaceful applications of nuclear science.
Mawhiba Secretary-General Abdulaziz Al-Kuraidis expressed his appreciation to the Kingdom’s leadership for its continued support of gifted and creative students, enabling them to compete in international scientific forums.
He also praised the strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and KACARE, highlighting their support in organizing the Olympiad.
Al-Kuraidis further commended Mawhiba’s longstanding strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education, describing it as a key partner in programs dedicated to identifying, nurturing, and empowering gifted students. He also lauded KACARE’s contribution to organizing the Olympiad and enhancing students’ training in the peaceful applications of nuclear energy.
Hosting the Olympiad underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing prominence in organizing international scientific competitions.
Represented by Mawhiba, Saudi Arabia has participated in the International Nuclear Science Olympiad since its inaugural edition in the Philippines in 2024, followed by the 2025 edition in Malaysia, earning five international awards, including one silver medal and three bronze medals.
Hosting the third edition of the Olympiad reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to supporting scientific excellence.
