RIYADH — Saudi Arabia and Britain signed on Tuesday a joint declaration of intent aimed at supporting children injured as a result of the military escalation in the Gaza Strip. The support will be in the form of provision of emergency surgical care and treatment for the injured.
The signing ceremony took place during a meeting between Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), and Jenny Chapman, UK Minister for International Development at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, on the sidelines of the Global Partnerships Conference 2026 held in London.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed a range of issues of mutual interest related to relief and humanitarian affairs, as well as ways to enhance bilateral partnerships in support of humanitarian efforts across several countries in need. Following the meeting, Al-Rabeeah and Chapman signed the joint declaration of intent to support children injured as a result of the current events in the Gaza Strip.
Under the declaration, the bilateral strategic partnership will be expanded to fund and implement humanitarian projects dedicated to caring for injured children in the Strip. The ongoing events have resulted in a growing number of child amputees and an ongoing need for prosthetic limb replacements as children continue to grow.
The declaration will also facilitate the provision of emergency surgical care and treatment for the injured, support healthcare infrastructure, strengthen infection prevention and control measures, and provide operational support and training for medical personnel. These initiatives will be implemented by Imperial College London.
The two-day Global Partnerships Conference, hosted by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), which commenced on Tuesday in London, brings together officials from governments, international organizations, humanitarian and relief agencies, investors, innovators, civil society representatives, and leaders from the business and technology sectors. It aims to establish broader and more modern partnerships that support countries in expanding their economies and strengthening self-reliance.
The participation of the KSrelief in the conference reflects its commitment to advancing international cooperation in humanitarian work and addressing current global challenges. The KSrelief also emphasizes the importance of balancing emergency response efforts with medium- and long-term solutions to achieve sustainable development.
