Neymar returns to training but Brazil star remains sidelined

MORRISTOWN, New Jersey — Neymar took another step in his recovery from injury on Tuesday, returning to the training field for the first time since joining Brazil’s squad at FIFA World Cup 2026.

The Brazil star participated in individual conditioning work but has yet to rejoin full team training as he continues his recovery from a right calf injury suffered while playing for Santos on May 17.

Neymar underwent further medical tests on Monday before resuming outdoor training at Brazil’s base camp in New Jersey.

The 34-year-old forward, appearing at his fourth World Cup, remains unlikely to feature when Brazil faces Haiti on Friday in Philadelphia.

Brazil’s medical staff is continuing to monitor his progress carefully, with the focus appearing to be on ensuring the veteran is fully fit for the latter stages of the tournament.

Neymar has not participated in a full training session since Brazil began preparations for the World Cup and was absent from the team’s opening match, a disappointing 1-1 draw against Morocco.

His potential return has become a major talking point in Brazil, where debate continues over whether coach Carlo Ancelotti was right to include the veteran forward in the squad.

Despite concerns over his fitness, Neymar remains one of the tournament’s biggest attractions and Brazil will hope his experience and creativity can provide a boost as the competition progresses.

After Tuesday’s session, Neymar remained on the field with his family, posing for photographs with his partner and daughters as his recovery continues.
