TAIF — The Council of Senior Scholars held its 99th session at the Council’s headquarters in Taif on Sunday.

The meeting was chaired by Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, who is also president of the Council of Senior Scholars and head of the General Presidency for Scientific Research and Ifta. The session was attended by the Council Secretary General Sheikh Fahd Al-Majed and members of the Council.

In his opening address, Sheikh Al-Fawzan highlighted the support and attention extended to the Council of Senior Scholars by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. He said this support has enabled the Council to fulfill its scholarly and legal responsibilities, as well as to examine the issues referred to it, and issue appropriate legal rulings on them.

The Grand Mufti also highlighted the security, stability, growth, and prosperity enjoyed by Saudi Arabia, as well as the honor bestowed upon the Kingdom by God in serving the Two Holy Mosques and the holy sites, enabling Muslims to perform their rituals in safety and tranquility.

For his part, Sheikh Fahd Al-Majed, secretary general of the Council and general supervisor of the Office of the Grand Mufti, said the agenda for the 99th session includes a number of important topics referred to the Council by King Salman, government agencies, and the Permanent Committee for Fatwas.

On the sidelines of the Council meeting, the Council formed advisory committees comprising several of its members and highly qualified specialists to provide expert insights on the topics under study. The committees subsequently submitted their reports to the Council for consideration.

Al-Majed said the General Secretariat had prepared peer-reviewed research papers on the agenda items, with the participation of specialists from various disciplines. The initiative aimed to examine all aspects of the topics from diverse perspectives. A group of experts and specialists were also invited to provide their views on several topics related to their respective fields.

During its 99th session, the Council continues its deliberations on the topics on its agenda, conducting thorough scholarly and legal studies to reach its decisions and legal opinions in accordance with its mandate and responsibilities.
