    NCM forecasts thunderstorms across Saudi Arabia through Wednesday

    JEDDAH — The National Center for Meteorology (NCM) forecasts thunderstorms of varying intensity experiencing across several regions of Saudi Arabia from Saturday through Wednesday, September 5 to 9.

    Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the Jazan, Asir, and Al-Baha regions, as well as the highlands of the Makkah region. The heaviest rainfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday in parts of the Jazan and Asir regions, while light to moderate rain will extend to the Najran region and the southern parts of the Riyadh and Eastern regions.

    The weather conditions in the Jazan region includes the governorates of Al-Raith, Haroub, Al-Dayer, Al-Aydabi, Fifa, Al-Ardah, Al-Harth, Baysh, Sabya, Damad, Abu Arish, Ahad Al-Masarihah, Samtah, and Al-Tuwal, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected to intensify on Monday and Tuesday. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in the governorates of Jazan and Farasan during the same two days.

    In the Asir region, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the governorates of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Ahad Rafidah, Sarat Abidah, Al-Harjah, Dhahran Al-Janoub, Al-Farshah, Al-Namas, Tanomah, Rijal Alma, Bariq, Mahayil Asir, Al-Majardah, and Balqarn, with the heaviest rainfall expected on Monday and Tuesday. Moderate rainfall is expected in Bisha, Al-Amwah, Tarib, and Al-Barak.

    In the Asir region, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the governorates of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Ahad Rafidah, Sarat Abidah, Al-Harjah, Dhahran Al-Janoub, Al-Farshah, Al-Namas, Tanomah, Rijal Alma, Bariq, Mahayil Asir, Al-Majardah, and Balqarn. The report indicated that moderate to heavy rainfall is expected from Monday to Wednesday in the governorates of Al-Baha, Baljurashi, Al-Mandaq, Qalwa, Bani Hassan, Al-Qura, Al-Makhwah, Al-Hajrah, Ghamid Al-Zanad, and Al-Aqiq in the Al-Baha region.

    In the Makkah region, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected from Monday to Wednesday in the governorates of Taif, Maysan, Adham, and Al-Ardiyat, while the governorates of Turabah, Al-Muwayh, Al-Khurmah, and Raniyah will experience light to moderate rainfall during the same period.

    The forecast also includes Wadi Al-Dawasir and Al-Sulayyil governorates in the Riyadh region, and Najran, Badr Al-Janoub, Habuna, Thar, Yadma, Khubash, and Sharurah governorates in the Najran region, with light to moderate rain expected from Monday to Wednesday. Additionally, Al-Udayd governorate and the southern part of Al-Ahsa governorate in the Eastern Province are expected to receive rainfall on Monday and Tuesday.

    Conditions will range from light rain accompanied by dust-stirring downdrafts reaching 50 km/h to heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimeters per hour. NCM warned that moderate to heavy thunderstorms may bring flash floods, hail, high waves along the coast, and strong wind gusts exceeding 60 km/h.

    Initial forecasts indicate that rainfall may continue into late next week. NCM urged the public to monitor updates through its official platforms, including the Anwaa early-warning application, and follow safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
