Apple recently elaborated on the specifics of a custom chip partnership with Broadcom, stating the updated agreement is expected to be worth more than $30 billion.

The vendor stated the deal would deliver more than 15 billion US-made chips and support hundreds of domestic jobs.

Apple added the deal would help Broadcom to expand and modernise its manufacturing facilities in Fort Collins in the US state of Colorado, with a $1.5 billion capex investment.

Broadcom is to produce advanced radio frequency component and wireless connectivity technologies at the site.

In a filing released on 6 July announcing the extended deal, Broadcom stated it would develop and supply a range of custom ASIC chips for use across multiple generations of Apple products.

The extension builds on an original agreement made in 2023.

Apple’s $30 billion commitment is part of a previously disclosed pledge to invest $600 billion in the US over four years to boost manufacturing, jobs and technology development.

Outgoing CEO Tim Cook said the new phase of the Broadcom partnership accelerates the companies’ commitment to domestic “manufacturing and innovation”.

“The cutting-edge components built in Fort Collins are essential to delivering the incredible performance and connectivity our customers expect, and we’re proud to deepen our investments in US-based suppliers that share our commitment to excellence and innovation”.
