RIYADH — The Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP) announced on Monday a 102% increase in patent applications submitted by individuals in 2025 compared to the previous year.

Based on the Authority’s report — the “Intellectual Property Information Statistical Report for 2025” — the Kingdom saw significant gains across various indicators of innovation protection, reflecting its accelerated shift towards a knowledge-based economy.

Among the report’s key findings is the direct filing route rising 59% from 2024, clearly indicating growing reliance on it as an effective option for protecting innovations and directly reflecting the success of SAIP’s initiatives to simplify digital filing procedures and enhance the user experience.

This also shows a growing national awareness of the importance of patent protection and empowering innovators to easily safeguard their ideas.

Regarding applications from outside the Kingdom, the report highlighted that China leads in design registration applications in the Kingdom, with exceptional growth of 262%. Meanwhile, design certificates issued for applications from China increased by 235%.

Huawei topped the list of the most active entities, confirming the Kingdom’s position as an attractive and reliable environment for major global technology companies.

The report also highlighted the leading roles of major national companies, including some affiliated with the Public Investment Fund, and startups, which demonstrated intensive efforts to protect their intellectual property.

The Authority affirmed that this report serves as a key reference for decision-makers, investors, and innovators to monitor the pace of innovation in the Kingdom and identify future opportunities in various intellectual property fields.
