Sanjaya Satharasinghe, Architecture Team Lead, Comstor Middle East and Mahmoud Hashem, Architecture Presales Manager, MHD Infotech, Oman, discuss the digital transformation goals specific to Oman and Cisco support for managing cloud complexity in this exclusive joint interview.

The datacenter landscape in the Middle East is evolving rapidly. From your perspective, what is driving this transformation?

Sanjaya Satharasinghe: Across the Middle East, we are witnessing an accelerated shift toward digital-first business models. Governments and enterprises are investing heavily in cloud adoption, AI-driven services, cybersecurity resilience, and operational automation. This transformation demands datacenter architectures that are not only high performing but also agile, secure, and scalable.

Organisations are moving away from fragmented infrastructure toward unified, software-defined environments. Technologies such as Cisco UCS and Cisco Compute provide the performance and flexibility required to support hybrid and multi-cloud strategies, while enabling enterprises to modernise without disruption. The emphasis today is on simplification, intelligent management, and long-term sustainability.

Mahmoud Hashem: In Oman specifically, digital transformation is closely aligned with national development initiatives. Enterprises are modernising core systems while also preparing for next-generation services. This requires infrastructure that can scale predictably and deliver consistent performance.

We see growing demand for integrated platforms like Cisco UCS, which combine compute, networking, and storage access into a unified system. This integration significantly reduces operational complexity and accelerates deployment cycles, which is critical in today’s competitive environment.

How does Cisco’s datacenter portfolio address the need for modernisation while ensuring operational efficiency?

Sanjaya Satharasinghe: Cisco’s strength lies in its architectural approach. Rather than treating compute, networking, and management as isolated domains, Cisco delivers a cohesive ecosystem. Cisco Compute solutions are engineered for workload optimisation, whether for virtualisation, private cloud, AI workloads, or mission-critical applications.

Cisco UCS continues to set industry benchmarks by delivering high-density performance, simplified cabling, and policy-based management. When paired with Cisco Intersight, organisations gain centralised, cloud-based visibility and lifecycle management across distributed environments. This is especially valuable for enterprises operating across multiple sites or hybrid environments.

Mahmoud Hashem: From an operational standpoint, visibility and automation are game changers. Cisco Intersight provides real-time analytics, proactive monitoring, and intelligent automation, allowing IT teams to shift from reactive troubleshooting to strategic optimisation.

For MHD Infotech, the ability to manage infrastructure holistically through Cisco Intersight significantly enhances operational efficiency. It reduces manual intervention, improves uptime, and ensures infrastructure remains aligned with business objectives.

Hybrid and multi-cloud strategies are becoming standard. How does Cisco support organisations in navigating this complexity?

Sanjaya Satharasinghe: Hybrid IT is no longer optional; it is foundational. Organisations require seamless workload mobility between on-premises datacenters and public cloud platforms. Cisco Compute platforms are designed with this in mind, delivering consistent performance and policy enforcement across environments.

Cisco Intersight plays a critical role by offering unified management and orchestration across hybrid infrastructure. This enables IT leaders to maintain governance, optimise costs, and ensure security compliance, regardless of where workloads reside.

Mahmoud Hashem: For enterprises in Oman, regulatory considerations and data sovereignty requirements often necessitate a balanced hybrid approach. Cisco UCS provides the robust on-premises foundation, while integration with cloud ecosystems ensures agility and scalability.

The result is an architecture that supports innovation without compromising control. This balance is essential for sectors such as finance, government, and telecommunications.

Security and resilience are top priorities for CIOs. How does Cisco’s datacenter strategy address these concerns?

Sanjaya Satharasinghe: Security must be embedded within the architecture, not layered on afterward. Cisco Compute and Cisco UCS incorporate security at the silicon and firmware levels, providing trusted platform modules and secure boot capabilities.

Additionally, Cisco Intersight enhances security posture through automated compliance checks, firmware validation, and lifecycle management. This reduces vulnerabilities associated with outdated configurations and manual processes.

Mahmoud Hashem: Resilience is equally important. High availability, redundancy, and predictive analytics are critical for business continuity. Cisco’s integrated approach ensures that compute, network, and management layers operate cohesively, minimising risk and downtime.

For our customers, this translates into confidence that their infrastructure can withstand both cyber threats and operational disruptions.

Looking ahead, how do you see Cisco Datacenter technologies shaping the future of enterprise IT in the region?

Sanjaya Satharasinghe: The future lies in intelligent, autonomous infrastructure. With advancements in AI-driven operations, predictive analytics, and workload optimisation, datacenters will become more self-managing and adaptive.

Cisco Compute platforms, enhanced by Cisco Intersight intelligence, are already moving in this direction. Enterprises will benefit from systems that not only support business growth but actively enable innovation.

Mahmoud Hashem: In Oman and across the region, organisations are preparing for a digital economy powered by AI, advanced analytics, and cloud-native applications. Cisco UCS provides the scalable foundation required to support these next-generation workloads.

By combining performance, security, and centralized management through Cisco Intersight, enterprises can transition confidently into the future. The strategic value lies not only in technology performance but in the ability to simplify complexity while accelerating transformation.
