CAIRO — Egypt’s National Defense Council on Sunday pledged to provide Saudi Arabia with “all necessary and possible forms of support” to defend its security, sovereignty and stability amid escalating missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthi militia against the Kingdom.

The decision came during a meeting chaired by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the presidential palace in Cairo, where senior political, military and security officials reviewed dangerous regional developments, particularly the escalating Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.

According to a statement issued by Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS), the council declared Egypt’s “full solidarity” with Saudi Arabia, emphasizing the deep historical ties between the two countries and their shared security interests.

The council stressed that Saudi Arabia’s national security is inseparable from Egyptian and broader Arab national security, reaffirming Cairo’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom against threats to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It decided to provide “all necessary and possible forms of support” to Saudi Arabia to defend its security and stability, protect its resources and territorial integrity, and safeguard Islamic holy sites.

The council also agreed to continue and intensify political and diplomatic efforts in coordination with relevant regional and international parties to de-escalate tensions and pursue peaceful solutions to ongoing regional crises.

The meeting comes amid a sharp escalation between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi militia, which has launched missile and drone attacks against the Kingdom.

The National Defense Council meeting was attended by senior Egyptian officials, including the speaker of parliament, prime minister, defense minister, army chief of staff, foreign minister, interior minister, intelligence chief and commanders of the armed forces.
