DAMMAM — The death toll from Wednesday’s attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam has risen to two, including a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) announced Thursday.

In a follow-up statement, GACA confirmed that an additional fatality had been recorded following the attack on the airport on Wednesday evening, October 21.

The authority said eight people remain injured, including one Saudi citizen and seven expatriates: two Indians, two Yemenis, two Bangladeshis and one Nepalese.

Their injuries range from minor to critical, and all are receiving medical care at several hospitals.

GACA expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

The authority said it continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to complete assessments of the damage caused by the attack and verify the safety of airport facilities.

It added that the necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of passengers and personnel and maintain the security of the Kingdom’s civil aviation system.

GACA confirmed that airport operations have resumed and air traffic has returned to normal.

The authority had initially reported one death and eight injuries following Wednesday’s attack, along with material damage that was still being assessed.
